December 2003 BDC/IDA Seeks 2003 Nominations for Annual Quality Community Development Award The Cortland County BDC-IDA is seeking nominations for this year's recipient of the "Quality Community Development Award." The award was created in 2001 to recognize a person or organization who made a significant contribution to the community promoting downtown revitalization, historic preservation and economic development. It is patterned on the "Quality Communities" principles developed as part of the Governor's Interagency Task Force on Quality Communities. The 2001 inaugural recipient was McNeil Development Company for its efforts transforming the 45,000 sq. ft. historic landmark buildings (formerly the Wickwire Building built in 1869 and the Garrison Building built in 1884) into the McNeil Building -- home to new companies last year such as WetStone Technologies. The 2002 winner was Thoma Development for its community development and downtown revitalization work with communities across Cortland County. In seeking nominations for this year's award, the BDC-IDA wants to recognize sustained commitment to quality community development or highlight a unique new project over the past year that has particularly contributed to community character. Of special note are projects that reinforce downtown development and historic preservation efforts in any community in Cortland County. Nominations of an individual, nonprofit organization or company may be made to the BDC-IDA by Devember 5. The decision will be made by the BDC-IDA board at its December meeting, and the winner will be recognized at an event later this year. |
