August 2003 Tioughnioga River Cleanup Set for September 20, 2003 Once again, the Cortland County BDC-IDA is partnering with the Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District to promote the Tioughnioga River Trail cleanup. This year's event will be Saturday, September 20 from 9 am until 12 noon, from Durkee Park in the Village of Homer to the Port Watson Street Bridge in the City of Cortland. Volunteers should meet at 8:45 am in front of 100 Grange Place, just off Clinton Avenue. "Each year the cleanup has grown, and it has become a fun annual event for the whole family," according to Linda Hartsock, BDC-IDA Executive Director. "We have had great participation from SUNY Cortland and local school districts, as well as Tioughnioga River Trail enthusiasts, which has made the cleanup such a success. This year we are also reaching out to families and local businesses to get involved." Along with the great sense of accomplishment volunteers will get from helping keep the Tioughnioga beautiful, the BDC-IDA will once again provide free Tioughnioga River Trail tee-shirts for all participants. This year is a new design. For more information about the Tioughnioga River cleanup, contact Will Burnell at the Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District at 753-0851, ext. 3. |
