Cortland County BDC/IDA Seeks Nominations for Annual Quality Community Development Award

The Cortland County BDC-IDA is seeking nominations for this year's "Quality Community Development Award." The award was created last year to recognize a person or organization who made a significant contribution to the community promoting downtown revitalization, historic preservation and economic development. It is patterned on the "Quality Communities" principles developed as part of the Governor's Interagency Task Force on Quality Communities.

Last year's inaugural recipient was McNeil Development Company for its efforts transforming the 45,000 sq. ft. historic landmark buildings (formerly the Wickwire Building built in 1869 and the Garrison Building built in 1884) into the McNeil Building -- home to new companies last year such as WetStone Technologies. The award was presented to Daniel McNeil, Sr. and David McNeil by BDC-IDA Chairman Paul Slowey.

"We recognized the McNeils for their multi-generational approach to historic preservation and downtown revitalization," said Linda Hartsock, BDC-IDA executive director. "The award was to honor a 40-year commitment to quality development here in Cortland."

In seeking nominations for this year's award, the BDC-IDA is seeking to recognize sustained commitment to quality community development, as well as highlight a unique new project over the past year. Of particular interest are projects that reinforce downtown development and historic preservation efforts in any community in Cortland County.

Nominations of an individual, nonprofit organization or company may be made to the BDC-IDA by July 20. The decision will be made by the BDC-IDA board at its August meeting, and the winner will be recognized at an event later this summer. To nominate someone for the award, please call the BDC-IDA at 756-5005 or e-mail the following information to: award@cortlandbusiness.com
